SC State Honors Student-Athletes

ORANGEBURG, SC – Over 100 student-athletes in nine (9) sports at SC State were honored Monday (Apr. 14) evening during the university's 2013-2014 Athletics Awards Banquet at Smith-Hammond-Middleton Memorial Center.

Student-Athletes were recognized and presented awards for outstanding achievement in their respective sports and also in academics.

Receiving the top awards as Male and Female Athlete of the Year, respectively, were sophomore Reggie Owens of the football squad, a family and consumer science major of Statesboro, GA; and Haley Austin of the women's soccer team, also a sophomore, and a fashion and merchandizing major of Pasadena, CA.

The award is presented to a student-athlete that excels in his/her sport and demonstrates outstanding leadership. The award has been named the Charlene M. Johnson Student-Athlete of the Year in honor of longtime Athletics Director Charlene Johnson, who is leaving the post to take another position at the university.
