2014 MEAC Basketball Tournament Pairings Announced

Lady Bulldogs will be the No. 10th seed, while the men are 12th

NORFOLK
, Va., March 6, 2014 - The Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) announced its men's and women's pairings for the 2014 MEAC Basketball Tournament, March 10-15, at the Scope Arena in Norfolk, Virginia. 

The three-time defending MEAC Tournament champion Hampton Lady Pirates will enter the tournament as the top seed after concluding the regular-season with a 16-0 mark in MEAC play. On the men's side, North Carolina Central Eagles clinched the No. 1 seed after posting a conference record of 15-1.
 
South Carolina State women finished the season 7-19 overall, 5-11 in the MEAC and will be the 10th seed and will open the tournament on Tuesday (March 12) at 1:30 p.m. against 7th seed Bethune-Cookman.  The winner of the matchup will face No. 2 N.C. A&T Lady Aggies Wednesday at 2:30 p.m.

The 12th seed Bulldogs finished the season at 9-20 overall, 5-11 in the league will face 5th seed Savannah State in a 9 p.m. contest Monday (March.10) to end first day of competition. The winner of the matchup will face the winner between No. 4 Norfolk St. /No. 13 UMES on Thursday (March 13) at 8 p.m.
 
The 2014 regular season champion, regular season runners-up, first-team members and top honorees including Player, Rookie, Defensive and Coach of the Year selections, will be recognized in pre-game presentations prior to the honorees first games in tournament play. 
 
The 2014 MEAC Basketball Tournament tips-off Monday, March 10, and will conclude on Saturday, March 15 with the men's and women's championship games.  The women's game will start at 3 p.m. and will broadcast live on ESPN3 and tape-delayed on ESPNU beginning at Sunday, March 16, at 11 a.m. The men's finale will begin at 6 p.m. and will broadcast live on ESPNU.  The preliminary games will also be streamed live on www.MEACsports.com.  Live statistics of all games will be available on the conferences' official website and the tournament's official website, www.MEAChoops.com.
