MORGANTON, NC – South Carolina State senior
Tiana Jones Monday finished fifth in the individual competition of the 36-hole Mimosa Hill Intercollegiate Golf Tournament, being hosted by Appalachian State at the Mimosa Hills Country Club.
Jones, an Alliance, OH native carded a second-round 4-over 76 on Monday to go with Sunday's opening round 77 for a 36-hole total of 153 in the event, which featured 178 players from 14 teams.
High Point's Grier Bennett carded a 36-hole total of (77-73) 150 to earn medalist honors. She was followed by teammates Sarah Bae (77-75) and Casey Ward (79-73), and Bethune-Cookman's Patrizia Trevisan (78-74), all at 152. Then came Jones, who was in a six-way tie for the lead after the first round Sunday.
Due to a scorecard error, SC State was disqualified for the team title, but will still be able to compete for individual accolades.
High Point captured the team title with a two-day total of (313-297) 610, 34 over par. Western Carolina was second at (321-306) 627, followed by Winthrop at (325-303) 628, Gardner-Webb at (322-310) 632, and Bethune-Cookman with a (323-310) 633
Following Jones for SC State was junior
Cheryl Chua of Vancouver, Canada, who had a 36-hole total of 86-78) 164.
