Bulldogs Battle Aggies In Pivotal MEAC Showdown

Senior forward Matthew Hezekiah

GREENSBORO, NC—The South Carolina State Bulldogs will look for a season sweep against N.C. A&T in a pivotal Mid-Eastern Athletic doubleheader Monday at Corbett Arena. Tipoff for the women is 6 p.m., with the men following immediately afterwards.

The Bulldogs enter the contest with a 9-18 overall, 5-9 MEAC record, while the Aggies are 8-21 overall, 4-10 in the league. SC State knocked off N.C. A&T earlier this season 75-70 in overtime in Orangeburg.

North Carolina A&T has three players in double figures with guards Lamont Middleton and Richaud Pack each averaging a little over 17.5 points respectively.  Forward Bruce Beckford is the leader in rebounds for the Aggies with 7.4, while tossing in 11.2 points per outing.

The Bulldogs are led by All-MEAC senior forward Matthew Hezekiah with 12.9 ppg and 6.1 rebounds per outing. Senior guard Adama "Louis" Adams is second on the team in scoring with 9.7 points, while sophomore forward Daryll Palmer is the leader on the boards with 7.1 rebounds and 7.1 points per contest.

"We know coming into this environment with the rivalry the two schools have is going to be very intense," said Bulldog head coach Murray Garvin. " They are a young scrappy team and well coach so their record doesn't indicate what type of talent they have."

"It would be great to get a season sweep over N.C. A&T but it is very important not to beat ourselves by limiting turnovers in tonight's game," said Garvin."

South Carolina State closes out the regular season at Savannah State on Thursday (March 6). The 2014 Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference Tournament will be held March 10-15 at the Scope Arena in Norfolk, VA. For more information you can log on to www.meacsports.com.
