DURHAM, NC—The South Carolina State Bulldogs will seek to avenge an early season loss, when they take on the Eagles of Savannah State in a pivotal Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference doubleheader Saturday at McDougald-McLendon Gym (3,116). Tipoff is 2 p.m., for the women and the men to follow immediately afterwards.
The Bulldogs enter the contest with a 9-17 overall, 5-8 MEAC record and currently holds the 8
th spot, while the Eagles are 22-5 overall, and is the top-ranked team in the league at 12-1.
"We have a tough contest tomorrow on the road against top-ranked NC Central," said SC State head coach
Murray Garvin. "It will be a tough challenge but we have to come out ready to play and match their intensity on the court."
The Bulldogs are led by All-MEAC senior forward
Matthew Hezekiah with 13.2 ppg and 6.1 rebounds per outing. Senior guard Adama "Louis" Adams is second on the team in scoring with 9.9 points, while sophomore forward Daryll Palmer is the leader on the boards with 6.8 rebounds and 7.1 points per contest.
The Eagles are led by senior guard Jeremy Ingram with 20.2 ppg and 3.8 rebounds, while forward Alphonzo Houston with 10.1 per outing. Jay Copeland is the leader on the boards with 6.3 rebounds and 8.6 points.
Garvin stated, "We want to finish strong these last three games so come tournament time we are moving in the right direction."
SC State will remain the road for their second of a three game road stretch on Monday (March 3) against North Carolina A&T State and Savannah State Thursday (3/6/14).
