SC State Downs Texas Southern, 3-2, in Women’s Soccer

Houston, Texas--After having its first game of the weekend cut short due to unplayable conditions, the SC State women's soccer team had success today in Houston, Texas, defeating Texas Southern, 3-2. With the win the Lady Bulldogs improves to 5-6-1 on the season.

Senior Tori Papp scored SC State's first goal just over 10 minutes into the contest (10:33). Texas Southern rebounded quickly, scoring its first goal within the next two plus minutes (12:41). Junior transfer Janell Cash pushed the Lady Bulldogs back into the lead with a goal at the 29:53 mark. Freshman Brittany Rodrique scored SC State's third goal at the 36:41 mark to give the Lady Bulldogs the 3-1 advantage heading into intermission.

SC State had only one shot after intermission but its defense remained solid throughout. Texas Southern did manage to score its second goal in the 70th minute to cut the deficit to one, 3-2, but could not get any closer.

SC State will have 11 days off from competition before hosting Howard on Friday, Oct. 4 in a 1 p.m. contest at the Oliver C. Dawson Bulldog Stadium.
