ORANGEBURG, SC—Junior forward Angel Matias led the Eagles with a game-high 22 points and nine rebounds in a ,79-61, win over the Bulldogs Saturday at Smith-Hammond-Middleton Memorial Center.
Junior guard's Tre' Bussey and Curtis Diamond each chipped in 14, while red-shirt junior guard Jelani Hewitt added 13 in the win. SC State was led by senior guard Adama "Louis" Adams with a team-high 21 on the night.
"We have to do better and we will do better, we just have to keep working hard," said SC State head coach Murray Garvin. "I give credit to Georgia Southern they came in here and executed and knock down big shots when need to come away with the win."
We as a team have work to do and I am going to make sure we get it done," said Garvin.
Despite, the costly turnovers (19) down the stretch the Bulldogs out-rebounded the Eagles 31-26, while getting 35 points down the stretch from the bench.
The Bulldogs fall to 2-7 overall, 0-0 MEAC, while the Eagles improve to 5-5 on the season.
South Carolina State will return to action on Tuesday (Dec.17), when they host Coastal Carolina in a non-conference matchup. Tip-off is 7:30 p.m.
