Tigers Turn Back Bulldogs 65-49

CLEMSON,SC—Sophomore center Landry Nnoko recorded the games only double-double with 13 point s and 13 rebounds , to lead Clemson to an 65-49 victory over South Carolina State Tuesday at Littlejohn Coliseum.

Clemson now leads the overall series 12-1 and improves to 7-1 overall on the season. Meanwhile, the Bulldogs fall to 2-6 overall. Sophomore reserve guard Devin Coleman led the Tigers with a game-high 16 points, while the Bulldogs were led by junior guard/forward Devin Joint with nine points and seven rebounds.

"I like what I saw from our team tonight and we competed for 40 minutes," said SC State head coach Murray Garvin. "

SC State jumped out to an impressive 10-point lead in the first-half off a jumper by freshman Karon Wright at the 10:44 mark. A 3-pointer by Coleman sparked a 15-4 run to give Clemson the lead, 23-22, with 6:22 remaining in the first-half.

Wright nailed a 3-pointer to put the Bulldogs ahead four, 31-27, with 3:36 left until intermission. A set of free-throws by Landry and junior guard Rod Hall closed out the first-half with Clemson leading 34-31.

The second-half belonged to the Tigers jumping out to a 10-point lead, 47-37, off a 3-pointer by junior forward K.J. McDaniel's at the 14:39 mark. The Bulldogs pulled within six, 47-41, off a layup by freshman forward Patrick Kirksey.

Clemson took full control pounding away to its biggest lead of the night 18, 65-47, off a dunk by McDaniel's and layup by sophomore forward Josh Smith to seal the victory.

Garvin stated, "A shot goes in here or there and the second-half and we have a different outcome. Our team is getting better and we played well against an ACC foe Clemson tonight."

Sophomore forward Daryll Palmer finished with eight points and five rebounds, while senior forward Matthew Hezekiah chipped in seven.

South Carolina State will return to action on Saturday (Dec. 7) when they host visiting Georgia Southern in an non-conference beginning at 6 p.m. at Smith-Hammond-Middleton Memorial Center.

"We need the Orangeburg Community and student body to come out and support as us as we take on Georgia Southern on Saturday," stated Garvin. "
