Bulldogs Hit The Road To Take On Chanticleers

—The South Carolina State men's basketball team will return to action Monday (Dec.30) on the road against the Chanticleers of Coastal Carolina in a non-conference matchup at the HTC Center. Tip-off is 7 p.m.

The contest, is the second of a home and home series between the two teams with SC State (3-8) knocking off CCU (6-6), 83-78, in Orangeburg back on Dec. 17. The Bulldogs return to action from a seven-day holiday layoff Monday night after dropping a tough 47-61 (Dec.23) decision to Jacksonville last week.

Senior forward Matthew Hezekiah leads the Bulldogs in scoring with 12.3 ppg and 5.1 rebounds. Senior point guard Adama "Louis" Adams is the top reserve off the bench with 10.0 points per outing, while newcomer and transfer guard Jordan Smith adds 7.0 ppg. Forward Daryll Palmer leads the teams in rebounding with 7.0 boards, while scoring 7.8 points per contest.

Meanwhile, the Chanticleers will be without two key players in starting senior center El Hadji Ndieguene and key freshman reserve Colton Ray-St Cyr. Ndieguene, the 6-foot-10 big man was averaging 7.1 points and a team-high 9.3 rebounds per game, while Ray-St. Cyr chipped in 5.8 points in 12 games off the bench while shooting 40 percent from 3-point range (12-of-30).

SC State returns to action on Friday (Jan.3) against intrastate rival and SEC foe South Carolina in the 2014 opener in Columbia, SC. Tip-off is 7 p.m.
