SC State Host Omaha In Men’s Basketball Action Monday

ORANGEBURG, SC—The South Carolina State men's basketball team returns to action Monday (Nov.25), when they host the visiting Mavericks of Omaha-Nebraska in a non-conference matchup. Tip-off is 7 p.m. at Smith-Hammond-Middleton Memorial Center.

This will be the second meeting between the two teams this season, with Omaha leading the series 1-0 after defeating SC State 59-91 (11/19/13) two weeks ago in Nebraska.

The Bulldogs (2-4) are coming off an 88-74 victory over Voorhees College on Saturday. Preseason First-Team All-MEAC forward Matthew Hezekiah pace the way for the Bulldogs with a team-high 18 points and six rebounds, while sophomore forward Daryll Palmer added his second double-double of the season with 14 points and 13 rebounds.

Freshman guard Karon Wright added the extra spark off the bench with a season-high 16 points, while shooting 4-of-8 (50%) from 3-point range.

SC State is led in scoring by Hezekiah with 15.2 ppg, and 5.3 rpg. Senior guard Adama "Louis" Adams and Koran Wright each adds 8.3 per outing. Palmer leads the Bulldogs in rebounding with 6.8 boards per game.

The Mavericks (3-3) enters the contest after suffering a tough 88-80 defeat to Drake University at home on Saturday. Four Mavericks finished in double-figures with junior guard CJ Carter and sophomore Devin Patterson each tossing in 17 each. Sophomore Marcus Tyus added 16, and senior center John Karhoff had 12.

Carter leads Omaha in scoring with 16.0 ppg and 3.2 rpg, while Patterson chips in 12.7 per outing. Karhoff and Tyus each add 11.3 points per contest.

South Carolina State will return to action on Tuesday (Dec.3) when they hit the road to take on ACC foe the Clemson University Tigers of the ACC in a non-conference matchup. Tip-off is 7 p.m. at Littlejohn Coliseum.
