Bulldogs Suffer Tough Defeat To Mavericks

Box Score OMAH, Neb—The South Carolina State men's basketball team suffered a tough 91-59 defeat to Nebraska-Omaha Tuesday night at Ralston Arena. With the win, Omaha improved to 3-2 (0-0 Summit League), while South Carolina State fell to 1-4 (0-0 MEAC).

Senior forward Matthew Hezekiah led the Bulldogs (1-4) wish a team-high 22 points and seven rebounds, while shooting a perfect 6-6 from the charity stripe. Sophomore forward Daryll Palmer and freshman guard Karon Wright finished with 11 each. Palmer recorded the games only double-double of the night grabbing a game-high 14 rebounds in the loss.

The Mavericks (3-2) were led by sophomore Marcus Tyus led all scorers with a career-high 24 points, shooting 62 percent (8-for-13) from the field and 3-for-7 from downtown. Tyus also exceled on the defensive side of the ball, forcing three Bulldog turnovers. The sophomore played a team-high 28 minutes in the rout.

Three other Mavericks joined him with double-figure scoring efforts: redshirt freshman guard Jalen Bradley (15 points), sophomore guard Devin Patterson (12) and junior forward Mike Rostampour (10).
Despite, the lofty 21 turnovers SC State outrebounded Omaha 41-33.

South Carolina State returns to action on Saturday (Nov. 23), when they host Voorhees College in a non-conference matchup at Smith-Hammond-Middleton Memorial Center. Tip-off is 7:00 p.m. The game will be televised live on 90.3 WSSB FM.
