SC State Inks Former Bruins Star To National Letter of Intent

Former O-W standout Tashombe Riley
ORANGEBURG, SC—South Carolina State head men's basketball coach Murray Garvin, announced Friday (Nov.15) the signing of former Orangeburg-Wilkerson basketball star Tashombe Riley to a National Letter of Intent to play for the Bulldogs in the 2014-15 season.

Riley is rated as a 3 Star recruit by Rivals.com, the highest ranking for any basketball recruit at South Carolina State in the past few years. The 6-7, small forward earned many All-Star accolades as a standout for the Bruins. He was selected to the 2012-13 S.C. Basketball Coaches Association Elite 5 during his senior campaign.

He was a two time 1st team All-State and All Region selection and was selected to play in the 2013 annual S.C. vs. N.C. All-Star game this past season. Riley joins former O-W teammate and current Bulldog guard Patrick Myers, who will be a rising junior on the SC State Men's Basketball team.

Riley is currently attending Gray's Military Academy where he is completing a post grade year. Bruin's head coach Tracey Gamble is excited about Riley returning home to play in front of his home crowd.

"We are delighted to know that Tashombe chose to come back home to play for South Carolina State," said O-W head boys basketball coach Tracy Gamble. "He will have a strong support system at SC State and he really liked the coaching staff and the direction that the Men's Basketball program is heading under the direction of Coach Murray Garvin."

Highly recruited from schools in North and South Carolina, Riley received scholarship offers from Charleston Southern, College of Charleston, Winthrop, UNC-Wilmington, and Temple, just to name a few.

"We are delighted to have a player of Tashombe's talent to join our Bulldog Basketball family," said SC State head coach Murray Garvin. "We (basketball coaching staff) have been involved in recruiting him since his junior year, and we did a great job with maintaining a relationship through this important process in his life."

Garvin stated, "It is important that we keep great local talent here in the state of South Carolina instead of playing against them somewhere down the road."
