#7 Michigan Powers Over SC State 93-59

Box Score ANN AROBOR, MI—The South Carolina State men's basketball team suffered a tough, 93-59, defeat to No.7 AP/No. 8 ESPN/USA Today Michigan Wolverine team Tuesday night (Nov.12) at Crisler Arena.

The Wolverines totally dominated from start to finish draining 15 three-pointers—one shy of tying the school record in front a record crowd 12,707.

The Bulldogs were led by sophomore Jordan Smith with 19 points while senior forward Matthew Hezekiah added 11 in the loss. Jordan also hit a team-high five 3-pointers from behind the arch.

Michigan jumped out to a quick 18-point lead off a layup and made free-throw by sophomore forward Glenn Robinson III at the 10:46 mark in the first-half. SC State managed to cut the lead to 15 off a 3-pointer by Smith with 9:24 remaining.

The Wolverines sparked a 21-4 run, which included four of Nik Stauskas's five first-half three-pointers, allowing Michigan to hold a commanding 59-23 lead going into halftime. Stauskas shot 6-for-6 finishing with 17 points.
Michigan outrebounded SC State 22-9, while shooting 63.2% from behind the three-point line connecting on 12-of-19 and shooting 20-of-30 (66.7%) from the charity stripe.

The Bulldogs scored seven unanswered points midway through the second half as part of a 12-2 run with 12:10 remaining in regulation. The Wolverines responded right back with a 10-0 off a three by Derrick Walton, Jr. and put-back by Jon Hortford at the 8:05 mark to push the lead to 41, 85-44.

The Wolverines won the rebounding battle, 43-30, and scored 28 points in the paint compared to SC State's 18. The Bulldogs shot a low 36% (21-for-59) from the floor, while the Wolverines finished 31-for-61 (51%).

UM had four players in double –figures with Caris LeVert leading with a game-high 24 points, Nik Stauskas with 23, Glenn Robinson III with 13 and Derrick Walton, Jr. added 12 in the victory.

The Bulldogs fall to 1-2 on the season, while the Wolverines improve to 2-0.

Next up South Carolina State will hit the road for a two-game swing when they travel to cornhusker state to take on University of Nebraska on Sunday, Nov. 17 in a 2 p.m. showdown. Then the Bulldogs travel to Omaha, NE to battle the Mavericks of Nebraska-Omaha on Tuesday (Nov.20) in a 7 p.m., tip-off.
