SC State Women in 4th Place After Two Days of Competition of the MEAC Track & field Championships

Rothmiller Captures Gold in Discus

Greensboro, NC--The SC State women's track and field team currently sits in fourth place with 22 points after two days of competition at the 2012 Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) Track & Field Championship. The championships, which run thru tomorrow, are being contested at the Irwin Belk Track on the campus of North Carolina A&T State University.

Senior Shamire Rothmiller captured the discus throw with a personal best record of 47.44 meters (155-08). Rothmiller also picked up the silver medal in the shot put with a personal best throw of 15.21 meters (49-11.00). In addition to Rothmiller, senior Eileena Fowler and freshman Ramona Thomas scored two points each finishing in seventh place in the discus and heptathlon, respectively.

The Lady Bulldogs also had athletes to qualify for the finals in several other events. Senior Alexandria Jones qualified for both the 200 and 400 meter dash finals. Jones recorded a personal best time in the 200 meter (23.73) and qualified for the 400 meter with a 53:57, the fastest qualifying time on the day.  Junior Yazmin Hicks also qualified for the two events as she ran a personal best 23:97 in the 200 meters and an 11:82 to qualify for the 100 meter dash.

SC State will set their sights on finishing strong on the final day of competition which gets underway at 9 a.m. tomorrow (Sat., May 5) with field events including: men's and women's pole vault, javelin, and triple jump. The women's and men's 4x100 meter relays will begin the running finals at 1 p.m.  Rounding out the evening's events will be the men's and women's 4x400 meter relay race at 4:20 p.m.
