SC State's Tiana Jones Earns Medalist Honors at PGA Minority Golf

PORT ST. LUCIE, FL – SC State junior Tiana Jones of Alliance, Ohio, was the medalist in the women's team division with a 54-hole total of (82-68-740) 224 to lead the Lady Bulldogs to a second-place finish at the PGA Minority Collegiate Golf Championship conducted Friday through Sunday (May 11-13) at the PGA Golf Course.

Jones opened with an 82 on Friday, but bounced back with a sparkling 4-under par 68 on Saturday and a solid 74 in the final round Sunday on the Ryder Course in earning medalist honors. The SC State golfer also earned an exemption from the LPGA into one Symetra Tour event during the 2012 or 2013 season.

"I wanted to play smart but I also wanted to play aggressively," said Jones. "I was dreaming about winning the individual title last night (Saturday) and my heart was in my throat all day. It feels awesome."

The SC State women carded a 54-hole team total of (324-297-303) 924 to finish second behind champion Bethune-Cookman, which shot a three-day total of (305-311-300) 916. Hampton was third with a team total of (329-314-313) 956.

Following Jones for SC State was sophomore Cheryl Chua with a 54-hole total of (79-76-74) 229, junior Cabriel Duren with a (81-74-77) 232, sophomore Cherie Chua, with a (82-79-78) 239 and Carmen Jones with a (83-87-78) 248.
