SC State Men Take On # 2 Georgia In NCAA Tennis Championships

ATHENS, GA—The South Carolina State men will be vying for their first victory in the NCAA Tennis Championships Saturday when they take on host #2 Georgia in the opening-round at Dan Magill Tennis Complex. The match gets underway at 12 noon, and will follow with an opening-round battle between women's second-round Georgia versus Clemson at 3 p.m.
       Saturday's match will mark the second meeting of the “Battle of the Bulldogs” SC State (20-2) and SEC Champion Georgia (23-2), who won the last contest in 2009 by a 4-0 score.
       Expected to lead the way for SC State is senior Dmytro Kovalevych, No. 2 singles, who was the 2012 MEAC Tournament Most Outstanding Player two consecutive years in a row. Joining him will be junior's Anton Protsenko and Peteris Vinogradovs, and sophomore Artemiy Nikitin.
       The Bulldogs are coming off an fifth straight Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference title, while Georgia recently captured the Southeastern Conference championship. The two teams are meeting in the first round for the second time in school history. The winner advances to Sunday's second round.
