SC State Finishes 8th at the 2012 MEAC Outdoor Track & Field Championships

Greensboro, N.C.—The SC State men's track and field team finished eighth (8th) at the 2012 Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) Outdoor Track and Field Championships.  The three day championships were contested at the Irwin Belk Track on the campus of North Carolina A&T State University in Greensboro, last weekend (May 3-5).

Sophomore Seymour Walter continued to lead the charge for the Bulldog men as he finished third in the 1500 meters and sixth in the 800 meter to pick up nine points on the final day of competition.  Senior Marcus Stephens, the triple jump defending champion, captured bronze (six points) in the same event at this year's championships.  Junior Donta Young, who ran in just his second championship and first in two years, finished fourth in the 110 meter hurdles to pick up five points for SC State.  The men's 4x100 meter relay team consisting of Young, Stephens, Zackery Hasty, and Karl Williams scored one point for their eight place finish as the Bulldogs finished the meet with 48.50 total points.

Hasty along with Walter, Stephens and Facey each earned All-Conference honors for their finishes.  Hasty was named to the All-MEAC First Team (Long Jump) while Walter (1500 meters), Stephens (Triple Jump) and Facey (Shot Put) each earned All-MEAC Third Team honors.

SC State men's track and field team also had eight (8) athletes named to the 2012 Men's and Women's Outdoor Track and Field All-Academic team.  Bethea, Facey, Graylyn Jefferson, Lorenzo Johnson, Molette, Walter, and Aaron Worthy, Jr. were among 131 students named to the team which honors MEAC sophomore, junior and senior student-athletes with a 3.0 or better cumulative grade point average as well as transfer student-athletes who have been in residence at the institution for at least one year are eligible for All-Academic accolades.
