MORGANTON, NC – The SC State women's golf team (5 players) carded a 36-hole total of (411-397) 808 to finish seventh (7th) at the two-day (Apr. 2-3) Mimosa Hills Invitational at the Mimosa Hills Country Club.
Coach Sandy Burris' team shot a 397 on Tuesday, shaving 14 strokes off its opening-round score of 411 but was unable to improve its place in the seven-team field. Western Carolina, the first-round leader maintained the top spot to take the title with a 36-hole total of (381-383) 764. Host Appalachian State was second at (388-392) 780.
Western Carolina's Sofie Kvarnstrom won the individual competition with a 2-over par (73-73) 146.
Leading the way for the Lady Bulldogs was freshman Cherie Chua, who had a 36-hole total of (80-75) 155, 11-over par and good enough for a tie for 13th in the individual competition. She was followed by junior
Tiana Jones who carded a 13-over par (78-79) 157, junior
Cabriel Duren, who was at (84-79) 163, freshman Cheryl Chua with a (84-82) 166 and graduate Carmen Jones, who had a (85-82) 167. Also competing for SC State was junior
Marina Terry, who had a (98-90) 188.
The Lady Bulldogs resume their schedule at the MEAC Showcase Apr. 15-17 at Savannah, Georgia.
