ORANGEBURG, SC – South Carolina State sophomore Tiana Jones carded an 18-hole 2-under par 70 Thursday to power the Lady Bulldogs pass Benedict 303-413 in a dual golf match at Hillcrest Golf Course.

Jones, an Alliance, Ohio native and the Buckeye State high school varsity champion as a senior, had birdies on holes #9 (Par 4), 10 (Par 4), 13 (Par 5) and 18 (Par 4). Her lone bogey came on the Par 3 second hole.

The 18-hole team total of 303 was the top round of the spring for SC State and the third-lowest round in school history behind a 294 and 302.

“I'm real pleased the way we played today,” said lady Bulldog head coach Sandy Burris. “We had our best round of the spring and I hope we continue to improve as we some very competitive events coming up on our schedule, beginning with a three-day match hosted by Appalachian State Apr. 1.”

Following Jones on the scorecard for Burris' SC State squad were freshman Cheryl Chua, who had a 1-over par 73; junior Marina Terry, who carded a 7-over 79; and Cherie Chua – Cheryl's twin sister – who had a 9-over par 81. Also competing for the Lady Bulldogs were Cabriel Duren, who had an 83 and Carmen Jones, who had an 87.

Benedict, whose women's program is only a couple of years old, was paced by Kelly Willis with a 7-over par 79. She was followed by Jada Mozie at 106, Pachia Davis at 109 and Jamie Bruce with a 119.

SC State will resume its schedule Apr. 1 at the 54-hole Appalachian Mimosa Hill Invite at Morganton, NC
