Orangeburg, SC—SC State and visiting Liberty, Sunday, battled to 1-1 tie at the end of regulation. The non-conference matchup was contested at the Oliver C. Dawson Stadium on the campus of SC State.
With the tie Coach Glad Bugariu's team holds a 1-0-1 overall record on the short season.
The Liberty Flames (0-1-1) scored the first goal of the game as Aimee Luurtsema hit an unassisted goal in the 29th minute. The defense of both teams kicked in as the score remained 1-0 going into the half.
The teams started the second half equally aggressive on defense as the score remained 1-0 Flames for the first thirty-three minutes of the period. Darci Smith hit what proved to be the game-tying unassisted goal for the SC State in the 83rd minute. Neither team could put the ball into the net over the next seven minutes which led to the 1-1 tie.
SC State will have seven days off from competition before heading to Farmville, VA to take on Longwood. The next home game for the Lady Bulldogs will be Monday, Sept. 6, at 7 pm when they host Campbell University. All SC State women's soccer games are played at the O.C. Dawson Stadium and are free.
