SC State Hands ECU First Home Loss Of Season 4-3 In Women's Tennis Play

SC State Upsets East Carolina 4-3 In Women's Tennis Action

 GREENVILLE, N.C. - The South Carolina State women's tennis team recorded their biggest win of the season upsetting non-conference foe No.75 ranked Eastern Carolina 4-3 Monday at ECU Tennis Complex.
       The victory improved the SC State to 13-5 overall, and East Carolina suffered its first home loss of the season falling to 16-8 overall and 8-1 at home.
       “This was a great win for our program beating a top 75 team like East Carolina," said SC State head coach Hardeep Judge." We haven't beaten them in years so to defeat a very good like ECU who hadn't loss a match at home all season."
       In doubles play, SC State clinched the doubles point dominating with wins by Maria Craciun/Daria Sekerina (SCSU) def. Jessica Cook/Audrey LePottier (ECU); 8-4, Laura Bosneag/Beate Valdane (SCSU) def. Petra Vogel/Yilian Zhang (ECU); 8-6 and I-Chun Chen/Sarai Torres (SCSU) def. Natalie Collins/Tamara Sachs (ECU); 7-4 (Did Not Finish)
         In singles action Daria Sekerina def. Jessica Cook 6-3, 6-2 at the No.1 spot, Laura Bosneag def. Yilian Zhang 0-6, 6-3, 6-2 at the No.5 spot and Amy I-Chun Chen def. Abby Richmond 6-4, 5-7, 6-3 in six single events.
       Hardeep stated, "We are starting to play well and get healthy before conference time and that's a good thing for our team."
        SC State closes out the regular season before heading to the MEAC Tennis Championships Friday in Raleigh, NC. The Lady Bulldogs enter the tourney as the top-seed in the Southern Division, while the Bulldogs are ranked #2 behind FAMU.
       The MEAC Tennis Championships begin on Friday, April 16 at 8:30 a.m. Tennis action continues on Saturday with semifinal play beginning 8:30 a.m. for the women and noon for the men. The championships will conclude on Sunday, April 18 beginning at 9 a.m. with the women's championship final. The men's championship final will follow at 11:30 a.m. The event is free and open to the public.
