SC State Women, Men Dominate "Jet" Johnson Bulldog Relays

Women Capture 11 Firsts, Men Win Five Events

ORANGEBURG, SC – The South Carolina State women and men dominated the 39th Robert “Jet” Johnson Bulldog Relays at the Lorry H. Dawkins Track Facility Saturday.

The Lady Bulldogs won 11 events and were second in five others in amassing 131 points to outdistance runner-up Bethune-Cookman, which won two events and was second in five others for 78.5 points.

The SC State men captured five firsts and as many runner-up finishes enroute to 147 points to 80 points for second-place finisher Benedict, which won two events.

Lady Bulldogs winners included Arnetra Frazier in the 100 meters (11.92), Tamala Daley in the long jump (5.63m), Shamire Rothmiller in the javelin (39.04m), Rothmiller in the shot put (14.37m), Monique Gracia in the 400 meter hurdles (1:03.73), Alexandria Jones in the 400 meters (55.62), Brittney Steward in the 5000 meters (19:15.20) and the 4x100, 4x200, 4x400 and 4x800-meter relay teams.

Runner-up finishes for the SC State women were Erica Peake in the 100 meters (12.18), Peake in the 400 meters (55.83), Brandi Jefferson in the 100 meter hurdles (14.60), Jasmine Smith in the triple jump (12.18m) and the 4x100 meter relay team.

Capturing firsts for the SC State men were

in the shot put (15.59m), Levar Knight in the high jump (6-08.00), Knight in the long jump (7.07m) and the distance medley relay.

Finishing as runner-ups for the Bulldogs were Brian Coleman in the shot (13.95m), Chris Ward in the 400 meters (48.61), the 4x100, 4x200 and 4x800 meter relay teams.

Following SC State and Bethune-Cookman in the women's team standings were Savannah State (29 pts), Benedict (22), Paine (20), Chattahoochee Tech (11), Claflin (10.5), Voorhees (9), Bulldog Blazers (8), Ft. Valley State (4), Concordia (Ala.) College (3) and Morris (2).

SC State and Benedict, in the men's team standings, were followed by Ft. Valley State (58), Savannah State (55), Bethune-Cookman (51), Concordia (Ala.) College (40), Claflin (39), Bulldog Blazers (33), Voorhees (26), Paine (24), Chattachoochee Tech (13) and Morris (1).

Claflin's LaQuan Priest captured the men's triple jump with a leap of 14.59 meters.
