GREENSBORO, NC -- After two days of completion at the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) 2010 MEAC Bowling Championship at the Gate City Lanes, South Carolina State has reached the semifinals.
Coach Lorra Bailey's team, which began the competition as the seventh seed, will meet former national champion and number three seed Maryland-Eastern Shore at 9:30 a.m. for the right to take on defending champion Delaware State in the 11:45 a.m. championship, which will be televised on a tape-delayed basis by ESPNU Mar. 29.
Delaware State advanced to its third MEAC final appearance and will compete for its second straight crown. The Lady Hornets topped Bethune-Cookman, Norfolk State and Maryland Eastern Shore in the best of seven matches during Baker play to advance to the championship final.
The Lady Bulldogs, in the tournament for the first time in three seasons, defeated Morgan State in the double-elimination bracket to earn the semifinal berth against Maryland Eastern Shore Sunday.
South Carolina State, the number seven seed, upset #2 Florida A&M and after a loss to #3 Maryland Eastern Shore, bounced back to defeat #5 Hampton before getting pass #6 Morgan State. In the matchup against Morgan State, Bailey's team battled back from being down 2-1 and rallied to win three games in Baker play to advance.
