SC State Women's Soccer Announces 2010 Recruiting Class

Orangeburg, SC--South Carolina State head women’s soccer coach Glad Bugariu, announced the addition of three players for the 2010 season. Signing a National Letter of Intent to attend SC State in the fall are Kaitlynn Cortez and Kaitlynn Penner. Transfer Olivia Moore will also be joining the 2010 edition of the Lady Bulldogs.

the Year at Evergreen HS. She also participated in club soccer at Alpine FC Club Team in San Jose. 
            Penner, a 5-7 defender, hails from Santa Barbara High School in Santa Barbara, Ca. She was a three-time All-League First Team Member (2007-10) and the 2006 High School Rookie-of-the-Year.
            Moore joins the Lady Bulldogs after spending two seasons at VMI. While at VMI the 5-7 forward (Powhatan, VA/Powhatan HS) was named the 2008 Big South Conference Freshman of the Year. In that same year she was named to the Big South All-Conference First Team. Moore’s high school accolades include being named to the All-State team three seasons, the All-Region team four seasons a member of the state’s Olympic Development Team.

            Bugariu is very excited about the signee’s. He outlines what each of these young ladies bring to the Lady Bulldog program.
            “Cortez solves some of the issues we had in the past in terms of speed and pace,” Bugariu said. “She is an excellent player who will make an immediate impact on the team. She also has the ability to play wide on the left.
            “Penner is another player who we are expecting to make an immediate impact from day one,” he continued. “She is an excellent defender that we have pursed for a long time and are honored the she chose SC State to continue her career. She can play multiple positions and has the technical ability to be very successful on the Division I level.”
            He added that “Moore has already proven that she can handle the Division I level. I’ve known her for years and I’m honored to finally have a chance to coach her. Her scoring record speaks for itself and will certainly make the team even better.”

Farmville, VA--The SC State women's soccer team dropped a non-conference match up to Longwood, 1-3.
 
SC State (1-1-1) got on the board early off an Olivia Moore goal (assisted by Briana Lopez) at the 9:35 mark. Defensively, the Lady Bulldogs had to play a man down for majority of the game as the goal keeper was dismissed from the game inside the 12th minute.

Lopez, a forward from Santa Barbara, Calif., captures offensive player of the week honors with a goal and an assist in the 2-1 upset victory over Navy. The freshman assisted on the game's first goal to put the Lady Bulldogs up, 1-0, then collected the game winner in the 87th minute - just 20 seconds after Navy tied the game.
