Landover, MD—The SC State women's track and field team finished fourth at the 2010 Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) Indoor Track & Field Championships. The championships were contested at the Prince Georges County Sports and Learning Center in Landover, MD.
This is the second straight season that the Lady Bulldogs have made a three place jump in the standings. In 2009, the Lady Bulldogs finished seventh which was a three place improvement from 2008 when they finished 10th.
On the final day of competition, Jasmine Smith was the top finisher for the Lady Bulldogs capturing the triple-jump title with a jump of 12.39 meters. All-in-all, SC State had six individual top eight finishers on the day. In addition to Smith, Shantrell Jenkins scored eight points (2nd-60 meter dash), Alexandria Jones earned seven points (5th-200 meters & 6th-400 meters), Brittney Stewart scored six points (5th-Mile & 7th-3000 meters), Nicole Mobley earned five points (6th-60 meter dash & 7th-200 meters) and Monique Gracia earned three points (6th-60 meter hurdles).
“The women really stepped up this year,” said head coach Tyree E. Price. “They wanted to be better and went out accomplished that. I am proud of our young ladies.” Price continued “We should continue to make more strides for the outdoor season.”
The will open their 2010 outdoor season on Saturday, March 6 at the Savannah State University Eye Opener meet in Savannah, GA.
