ORANGEBURG, SC—Senior All-MEAC guard/forward Jason Flagler poured in 26 points and grabbed nine rebounds, while JUCO transfer Darnell Porter tossed in 25 along with eight rebounds to lead SC State to an 87-65 victory over Coppin State Monday.

Porter hit an impressive 6-7 from the 3-point range on the night, along with Flagler's 11-12 from the field in the victory.

SC State jumped out early 15-5 off steal by Carrio Bennett and a layup by Darnell Porter at the 14:45 mark. Coppin State cut the lead to three, 25-22 on a tip-in by Sam Coleman with 7:56 left  in the first-half.

A 3-pointer by Porter followed by a Jason Flagler layup closed out the half to give the Bulldogs an eight point lead, 40-32.

SC State's Darnell Porter led all scorers at half-time with 12 points, followed by Jason Flagler with 11.

The Bulldogs jumped out to 17 point lead, 60-43 on a 3-pointer by Carrio Bennett at the 11:55 mark. A pair of back-to-back 3-pointers by freshman guard Tyvon Williams put SC State ahead 22, 85-63 with 2:02 left in the contest.

Sophomore Rio Pitt and freshman Tyvon Williams finished with 10 each on the night. Williams also post a game-high eight assists.

Coppin State was led by Sam Coleman and Vince Goldberry with 12 each, while Kareem Brown chipped in 11 and Michael Harper added 10 points and seven rebounds in the loss.

South Carolina State would go on the cruise to an 87-65 victory over Coppin State. The Bulldogs improved to 8-7 overall, 2-2 in the MEAC, while Coppin State dropped to 5-11 overall, 0-4 in the league.

South Carolina State will return to action on Saturday against MEAC rival North Carolina A&T Saturday in doubleheader action. The women's game begins at 2 p.m., followed by the men's at 4 p.m.
