WAYNESVILLE, NC – The final round of the 36-hole Great Smokies Intercollegiate Golf Tournament was rained out Sunday at the Waynesville Inn Golf Resort. Host Western Carolina and Elon, who had identical first-round scores of 2-under par 286, were declared co-champions.
South Carolina State, which had an 18-hole total of 328 after the first round finished in a tie for 21st in the 24-team field. The Lady Bulldogs were led by freshman Cabriel Duren, who carded a first-round total 5-over par 77, which put her 48th in a field of 120 participants.
The tournament was the first of four fall matches for SC State and first-year head coach Sandy Burris.
The Lady Bulldogs return to action Oct. 11 when they host The Citadel.
