ORANGEBURG, SC – The Bulldog football team is idle this week, however, three other South Carolina State teams – volleyball, soccer and cross country -- will be in action, beginning Friday.
The SC State volleyball team will be at home as Coach Millicent Sylvan’s team will host the two-day (Sept. 18-19), 10-team Spikefest tournament at Smith-Hammond-Middleton Memorial Center.
The action gets underway Friday morning at 11 a.m. with the host Lady Bulldogs facing The Citadel and Hampton taking on Providence (go to www.scsuathletics.com for a complete schedule). Admission to all matches on Friday and Saturday are free.
Also in action Friday will be the SC State soccer team, which travels to Montgomery, Ala. to meet Alabama State in a 7 p.m. match. The SC State women, at 3-4, are off to their best-ever start and can climb to .500 with a victory. Coach Glad Bugariu’s team is coming off a 3-2 double overtime victory over Charleston Southern on Tuesday.
Both cross country teams will participate in the Coastal Carolina Invitational at Conway Friday, beginning at 6 p.m. Other teams in the meet, the second of the year for the SC State men and women, are host Coastal Carolina, Francis Marion, Limestone, and North Greenville.
