Orangeburg, SC—SC State Track & Field Assistant Coach Donald Cooper will be amongst the instructors at the USA Track & Field Association Level I School. The classes, which are scheduled for May 22-24, will be held on the campus of Augusta State University in Augusta, GA.
Cooper, who is in his second season as an assistant with SC State has 8+ years of coaching experience at the collegiate level.
He was a two-sport standout at State excelling both track and football. The Swainsboro, GA native was an NCAA Qualifier (110 hurdles-1996) and an Olympic Trials Qualifier (110 hurdles-1996). Cooper was also a member of the 1994 football Bulldog team which defeated Grambling 31-27 in the Heritage Bowl and in 1997 he was named Most Valuable Defensive Back at the university. That same year, he participated in the Walter Reed All-Star Game and was signed as an un-drafted Free Agent by the New Orleans Saints of the National Football League.
“Teaching at the school provides me the opportunity to go out to share the knowledge that I have gained at the coaching education schools,” said Cooper. “It will also help with our recruiting efforts as it will give prospective student-athlete assurance that they will come to a program that has knowledgeable coaches.” Cooper continued, “We hope that someday in the future we will have an opportunity to host Level I Coaching School.”
Cooper will be teaching physiology on Sat., May 23 and sprints & hurdles on Sun., May 24.
