Former S.C. State All-American and NFL Star to address PE Club

Shell Played In Four Super Bowls With Pittsburgh
Donnie Shell, Sr., who earned All-America honors at S.C. State before enjoying a long and productive career in the National Football League, returns to the campus today to address the Health and Physical Education Club. Shell will speak to the group, which is made up of health and physical education majors, at 7 p.m. in Room 128 at Smith-Hammond-Middleton Memorial Center. The public is invited.

Shell, who recently retired as Director of Player Relations from the Carolina Panthers, was a standout defensive back at S.C. State (1970-73), where he earned All-MEAC and All-America Honors.  He later went on to sign a free agent contract with the Pittsburgh Steelers in 1974.

The Whitmire, SC native went on to spend 11 years with the Steelers where he became an instant starter and went on to play on four Super Bowl Championship teams in Pittsburgh.

He is enshrined in Halls of Fame by his alma mater, the MEAC, the Palmetto State and the College Football Foundation.
