Cary, NC—SC State softball team split a non-conference softball double-header with North Carolina Central University (NCCU), 8-0 and 1-5. The match-up was contested at the Thomas Brooks Athletic Park in Cary, NC.

SC State dominated Game One as they scored in all but two innings. The Lady Bulldogs scored one run in the first, two in the second, one in the third, two in the fifth and two in the seventh inning. Despite committing three errors in the game, SC State’s defense held strong not allowing NCCU to score thus securing the eight run victory. Freshman Kimberlee Pereira pitched her first collegiate seven inning complete game shut-out. She held the Lady Eagles to just three hits for the game.

SC State could not carry their offensive momentum into Game Two, as they scored just one run in six innings. NC CU scored two runs in the first, one run in the third, and two runs in the sixth inning to defeat SC State, 5-1 in Game Two. The Lady Bulldogs lone run came in the top of the fifth inning when Samantha Cain scored after a caught foul ball allowed her to tag up from third base.

The split puts the Lady Bulldogs record at 7-27 on the season. With the game one victory, Kimberlee Pereira improved to 4-16 while Raven Johnson fell to 3-10 with the game two loss.

The Lady Bulldogs will close out the 2009 regular season this weekend (Sat-Sun) when they travel to Tallahassee, FL to take on the Lady Rattlers of Florida A&M University in a Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) three-game series.

GAME NOTES: Game Two concluded in the bottom of the sixth inning due to a lack of substitutions for SC State.
