MYRTLE BEACH, SC – South Carolina State hurdler Tempest Vance and triple jumper Jasmine Smith earned NCAA Regional qualifying marks Saturday at the Coastal Carolina Shamrock Invitational Track Meet at Doug Shaw Memorial Stadium.
Smith had personal-record leap of 12.68 meters (41-6) to win the triple jump, while Vance was second in the 400 meter hurdles in a time of 100.56 seconds.
SC State also had several other top finishes at the meet, which included 38 schools from along the Eastern Seaboard.
The SC State women's 4x400 meter relay team of Andranette Moss, Vance, Elizabeth Govrik and Natalee Allen finished second with a clocking of 3:46.61; Monique Gracia and Rene McWilliams finished third and fourth in the 100 meter hurdles with times of 14.19 and 14.60, respectively; Nicole Mobley was third in the 100 meters with a time of 12.05; Shamire Rothmiller was third in the shot with a toss of 13.32 meters (43-08.5); Kristi Foster and Brandi Jefferson finished third and fourth in the Heptathlon with 3597 and 3517 points, respectively; and the 4x200 meter relay team of Mobley, Vance, Shari Sampson and Moss was fourth in a time of 1:40.23.
In the men's competition, hurdler Donta Young was third in the 400 meter hurdles in a time of 54.93 and fourth in the 110 meter hurdlers with a clocking of 14.83; and Marvin Williams was second in the triple jump with a leap of 14.68 meters.
SC State resumes its schedule Friday at Georgia Southern.
