ORANGEBURG, SC – The South Carolina State men (10-11, 5-4 MEAC) will try to run their win streak to five Monday when they host league leader Morgan State (13-10, 7-2 MEAC) in the second game of a Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference doubleheader that gets underway at 5:30 p.m. with a match-up between the women's team of the two schools at Smith-Hammond-Middleton Memorial Center. The men's game will follow at approximately 7:30.
Coach Tim Carter's Bulldogs have won four in a row, with the latest triumph a 69-61 decision over Coppin State Saturday in a nationally telecast contest on ESPN2. The visiting Bears, last season's regular-season champs and the league leaders this year, have also been hot, capturing three straight and eight of their last 10 outings. Morgan is coming off a 73-64 win at Winston-Salem State Saturday.
A win by the Bulldogs would put SC State to within one game of first place in the MEAC race. The Bears have won the last three meetings between the two schools and ended SC State's season last year with a 77-68 triumph in the quarterfinals of the MEAC Tournament at Raleigh, NC.
In the women's contest, Coach Doug Robertson's Lady Bulldogs (5-15, 2-7 MEAC) will be trying to halt a losing streak that reached two games Saturday with a 69-51 setback to Coppin State.
The Lady Bears have also been in a down spiral, having lost three straight, including a 66-61 setback at Winston-Salem State on Saturday.
