Basketball Update

ORANGEBURG, SC – South Carolina State will conclude a two-game, four-day Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference road swing Monday against North Carolina A&T in Greensboro. The action gets underway at 6 p.m. with the women’s contest. The men’s game will follow at approximately 8 p.m.

The game between the SC State men (13-12, 8-5 MEAC) and the host Aggies (14-13, 7-5 MEAC) will be a matchup of the league’s hottest two teams.

The Bulldogs have won three straight and seven of eight to climb over the .500 mark for the first time since early in the season at 13-12. Coach Tim Carter’s team is in a two-way tie for second place in the league standings with Coppin State. SC State is coming off a 76-66 triumph at Norfolk State Saturday.

The Aggies, who are just one-half game out of second at 7-5 and sport a 14-13 overall mark, have won six in a row, including a 68-61 victory over Winston-Salem State Saturday.

In and earlier meeting Jan. 26 at Orangeburg, SC State defeated the Aggies 71-53 before a national ESPNU audience and the season’s largest crowd of 3,142

In the women’s game, the Lady Bulldogs (5-19, 2-11 MEAC) will be facing the MEAC leader in the Lady Aggies (19-6, 11-1 MEAC).

The NC A&T women suffered their first MEAC setback of the season – 68-66 – at Delaware State Monday, but rebounded Saturday with an easy 84-46 win over Winston-Salem State. In an earlier meeting in Orangeburg, Coach Pat Bibbs’ team raced past SC State 90-61.

The Lady Bulldogs have lost six in a row, including a 75-52 setback to the previously winless Norfolk State on Saturday.
