PINE HURST, NC -- The South Carolina State women’s golf team carded an 18-hole team total of 343 Monday (Nov. 2) and is in 15th place after first-round action of the two-day, 36-hole Pine Hurst Fall Challenge at the par-72, 6004-yard Pine Hurst No. 6 course.
Host College of Charleston had an opening-round team total of 291 to lead the competition after 18 holes. The final round gets underway at 8:45 a.m. Tuesday.
Junior Honesty Biggers was tied for 45th in the individual competition with a 9-over par 81 to lead the Lady Bulldogs. Freshman Cabriel Duren had an 82, senior Addi McLaren an 86 and Geneva Mackey, another senior, a 92 for SC State.
First-year head coach Sandy Burris said she was hopeful her team would improve its position by three to four spots on Tuesday.
“It’s a strong field and a difficult course,” said Burris. “But, if we improve our play just a little, we have a chance to move up three to four spots in the field.”
