SC State Dominates Winston-Salem State In Women's Volleyball

Sr., Brittany Davis Recorded 11 Kills in the Victory
Orangeburg, SC—The SC State Lady Bulldogs defeated the Lady Rams of Winston-Salem State, 3-0, (25-14, 25-16, 25-16), in a non-conference volleyball match-up in Dukes Gymnasium. With the victory, the Lady Bulldogs picked up its second win in a row.
SC State dominated the match from start to finish. The Lady Bulldogs put down 40 kills with a hitting percentage of .321 while holding the Lady Rams to just 19 kills and a hitting percentage of .013.
Junior Jarne Gleaton and senior Brittany Davis finish the match with double-digit kills recording 14 and 11 respectively. Sophomore Lauren Harris picked up 12 defensive digs while sophomore Bria Brimmer put up 23 set assists in the victory.
Annika Barnwell recorded 11 kills and picked up nine digs for Winston-Salem State in the loss.
SC State will return to action Tuesday, Oct. 20 when they host Coastal Carolina. This will be the Breast Cancer Awareness Game for the Lady Bulldogs. The team is asking all fans to wear pink in support of the Breast Cancer Awareness Initiative. Admission to the game is free; however, a $5 donation is being asked of non SC State students with all proceeds going to the Side-Out foundation. Tuesday’s contest is set for a 6 p.m. first serve in the Smith-Hammond-Middleton Memorial Center on the campus of SC State.

SC State women’s volleyball head coach Millicent Sylvan will host four summer camps. The dates and cost for the camps, which will be held on the campus of SC State, are as follow:
June 21-23, 2010: Basic Skills Camp (Ages 11-16)-$75
June 25-27, 2010: Elite Skills Camp (Ages 13-18): $150 Commuter/$275 Overnight
July 18-20, 2010: Team Camp: $175 per player (pre-registrants); $185 per player (late-registrants)
July 21, 2010: Team Tournament: $175 (non-camp attendee); $100 (camp attendees)

SC State University regrets to announce the passing of former SC State volleyball player Erinn N. Phillips. Phillips passed away today in her hometown of Inkster, MI after battling an extended illness. Phillips, 22, was a setter for one season (2007) for the SC State women’s volleyball team.

Orangeburg, SC--South Carolina State head women’s volleyball coach Millicent Sylvan, announced the signing of the Lady Bulldogs 2010 recruiting class. These eight young ladies signed their national letters of intent during the November signing period.
Inking pacts with SC State were Alyse Lewis, Beatrice Douglass, Desiree Waller, Victoria Williams, Taylor Bailey, Mikayla Charles, and South Carolina natives Blake Banner and Caleen Hawkins.

Virginia Beach, VA—The SC State women’s volleyball team will be the third seed in the Southern Division for the 2009 Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) Volleyball Championships.
SC State finished its 2009 regular season campaign, 13-19 overall and 4-4 in the Southern Division of the MEAC.

Orangeburg, SC—The SC State women’s volleyball team closed out its 2009 Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) season with a 3-0 (25-21, 25-12, 25-19) win over North Carolina A&T State University. With the victory the Lady Bulldogs improved to 13-17 overall and 4-4 in the MEAC while the Lady Aggies fell to 2-29 overall and winless in the MEAC at 0-8.
