Orangeburg, SCFor the first time in two years, the SC State women’s bowling team has qualified for the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) Bowling Championships. The 2009 championships will be contested the weekend of March 20-22, 2009 at the Gate City Lanes in Greensboro, NC.
SC State closed out the regular season last weekend at the MEAC Southern Division. The team recorded a 7-3 record over the weekend. The most important victory during the competition came against Bethune-Cookman the team that sat directly ahead of SC State in the standing entering the week. The victory over the Lady Wildcats secured the Lady Bulldogs berth in the championships.
“I’m extremely proud of the young ladies,” said first year head coach Lorra Bailey. “They worked hard all year and it means everything to me for us to make it to the championships.”
The Lady Bulldogs will go into this year’s championships as the number four seed in the South. The team has been played extremely well down the stretch and will need to continue to play as consisten if they are to advance in the championships.
“It’s going to have to be a team effort if we are to do well in the matches,” said Bailey. “Everyone on the team is doing their part, but Autumn Glencamp has really shined as of late as she has recorded the second highest score (266) in the conference this year.”
The championship bracket will be released at a later date.
