SC State Men Finish Sixth; Women Finish Third at the Citadel Invitational

Charleston, NC—The SC State men’s team finished sixth while the women’s team finished third at the Citadel Invitational held at James Island County Park on Saturday.
            Freshman Charles Kurgatt (Tallahassee, FL) paced the Bulldogs finishing in 24th place (out of 58 competitors) with a time of 29:15.11. This time marks the best time of the season for Kurgatt in an 8k race.
            On the women’s side Freshman Brittney Stewart (Warner Robins, GA) put in her best finish of the season finishing ninth of 43 competitors. Stewart paced the Lady Bulldogs with a time of 19:51.73 in the 5K race.
            Both teams will be back in action on October 18 when they travel to Rock Hill, SC to participate in the Winthrop Fall Invitational.

SC State Cross Country Teams Open 2010 Campaign Friday

ORANGEBURG, SC – The SC State men’s and women’s cross country teams open the 2010 campaign Friday (Sept. 3) at the USC-hosted Gamecock Invitational at Hilton Field at Fort Jackson. The 5K competition gets underway at 6 p.m.

Harris Named Assistant Cross-Country/Track and Field Coach
Orangeburg, SC—Jebreh Harris has been named assistant cross-country/track and field coach at South Carolina State. Harris began his duties on February 1.
            Harris joins the SC State staff after serving the past season five seasons (2004-2009) as a volunteer-assistant coach at his alma mater University of Tennessee-Knoxville (UT). While at UT, Harris also served several years as a track coach with the Knoxville Track Club working with the youth program. He also has spent time as a sports specific/personal trainer (Performance Training Inc.) Where he has trained several world class athletes and designed workout for clients with particular needs.

ORANGEBURG, SC – The South Carolina State cross country team will open its 2009 campaign Friday at the Gamecock Invite at the University of South Carolina. The match will be one of seven for Coach Tyree Price’s squad.

SC State Cross-Country/Track & Field Assistant Coach to Teach at USATF Level I School
Orangeburg, SC—SC State Track & Field Assistant Coach Donald Cooper will be amongst the instructors at the USA Track & Field Association Level I School. The classes, which are scheduled for May 22-24, will be held on the campus of Augusta State University in Augusta, GA.
 
Cooper, who is in his second season as an assistant with SC State has 8+ years of coaching experience at the collegiate level.
