SC State Cross-Country Teams Open 2008 Season Friday

Orangeburg, SC--The South Carolina State men’s and women’s cross country teams will open its 2008 season this Friday, Aug. 29, when they travel up Interstate 26 Friday to participate in the Gamecock Invitational. The meet, which is hosted by the University of South, will be held at Hilton Field on Fort Jackson Army Base in Columbia, SC.

 

Other teams in Friday’s field are host  South Carolina, Benedict College, Catawba College, Charleston Southern, Coastal Carolina, College of Charleston, Georgia Southern, Mercer, Presbyterian College, Savannah College of Art & Design, The Citadel, UNC Pembroke, USC Aiken, USC Beaufort and Voorhees College.

 

Friday’s competition will open up with the men’s 5000 meter race at 6:30 pm followed by the women’s 5000 meter race at 7:00 pm.  The meet is free and open to the public.  Fans for the meet can enter through Gate 2 at Fort Jackson. A photo ID is required to enter Fort Jackson.

 

Both the Bulldogs cross-country teams will be back in action next Saturday, Sept. 6 when they travel to Spartanburg, SC to participate in the USC-Upstate Eye Opener.

Orangeburg, SC—Jebreh Harris has been named assistant cross-country/track and field coach at South Carolina State. Harris began his duties on February 1.
            Harris joins the SC State staff after serving the past season five seasons (2004-2009) as a volunteer-assistant coach at his alma mater University of Tennessee-Knoxville (UT). While at UT, Harris also served several years as a track coach with the Knoxville Track Club working with the youth program. He also has spent time as a sports specific/personal trainer (Performance Training Inc.) Where he has trained several world class athletes and designed workout for clients with particular needs.
