Princess Anne, MD (October 25, 2008)—The South Carolina State University men’s cross-country team finished 10th and the women finished ninth at the 2008 Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) Championship held at the University of Maryland Eastern Shore in Princess Anne, MD.
Freshman Charles Kurgatt (Tallahassee, FL) paced the Bulldogs finishing with a time of 29:47.21 in the 8K Run. Mason Gould was the second Bulldog to finish with a time of 31:15.81. Dashan Axson, Mark Elmore, Quinton Green and DeAngelo Bolden rounded out the field for the Bulldog men.
Freshman Brittney Stewart (Warner Robbins, GA) led the Lady Bulldogs finishing in sixth place with a time of 18:21.11 and earning a place on the All-MEAC Top 15 Team. Lauren Lawson was the second highest finisher for the Lady Bulldogs as she finished in 24th place in a time of 19:36.87. Rounding out the field for the Lady Bulldogs was Kristi Foster, Patrecia Daniley, Andranette Moss and Sade Pugh.
Both SC State track teams will open its 2008-09 indoor season on December 5 when they travel to Boone, NC to participate in the Appalachian State Opener.
NOTE: Mark Elmore, Dashan Axson, Lauren Lawson and Andranette Moss were recipients of the MEAC Academic Award for maintaining a 3.0 or better cumulative grade point average.
