SC State Womens Cross-Country Finish 2-2, Men Finish 0-4 in Dual Competition

James Island, SC—The South Carolina State women's cross-country team finished 2-2 while the men's cross-country team finished 0-4 at the Second Annual Bulldog Duals this past Friday hosted by The Citadel.
Senior Brittany Strange and junior Lauren Lawson, who finished 24th and 25th, helped the lady Bulldogs earn two-out-of-four victories at the meet. For the second consecutive meet, Strange led the Lady Bulldogs with a time of 22:33. Lawson finished with a time of 22:48.
SC State women bought home victories against Charleston Southern (25-30) and Savannah state (26-31). The Lady Bulldogs fell to The Citadel (50-15) and Georgia Southern (40-17) at the Duals.
“The women's squad had a little trouble with cramping due to the heat,” said first year head coach Tyree Price. “Despite the problems, I do see promise in the team as we move closer the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference Championships in October.”
SC State men's team did not fare as well as the women as they went 0-4 in Duals falling to Charleston Southern (39-16), College of Charleston (42-15), The Citadel (50-15) and Savannah State (30-25).
Richard Elisu continued to lead the Bulldogs as he finished in 31st place with a time of 18:29. The next closest Bulldog was Tyreese Clark who finished in 40th place with a time of 20:50.
“We have a lot of work to do in terms of miles on the men's side,” said Price. “I feel that we will get better in the upcoming weeks, but for us to be competitive our conditioning has to improve.”
The SC State Cross-Country Teams will travel to Rock Hill, SC this Saturday, Sept. 15 to participate in the Winthrop/Asics Invitational hosted by Winthrop University.

Note: Brittany Strange ran a 21:11.11 at the Gamecock Invitational last week (Sept. 7) which was hosted by the University of South Carolina.
