Hampton Grant Simpson was a member of the SC State football team from 1934 to 1938 where he earned a bachelor’s degree in 1938. He was the starting center for two seasons and earned All-Southern Conference honors...Was named to the Pittsburgh Courier Black College All-America team at center in 1936...Earned a bachelor’s from SC State in 1938...Went on to a long and successful tenure as a high school teacher, coach (football and basketball) and principal at Granard High in Gaffney, SC.
