Was a record-setting performer in cross country and track and field (1983-87) after making the team as a walk-on in 1982...Earned a scholarship in 1983 and went on to a distinguished career at SC State...All-MEAC Cross Country three years and All-MEAC Track & Field two seasons...Anchored the 1985-86 400-meter relay team that set a then school record with a time of 3:06, which today ranks second in school history...Still holds the school record in the 400-meter run with a time of 45.1...NCAA national qualifier in the 400 meters in 1986, the same year he was ranked #11 nationally in the USA in the event...captained the 1985 and 1986 cross country and track and field squads...Team Award – outdoor and indoor MEAC champions 1983-86...Named an SCSU Distinguished Alumnus in 2004...Established the Robert “Jet” Johnson Scholarship with $10K donation...Received a Congressional Order of Merit from Ohio Delegation and special recognition for the USA Olympic Committee.
