SC State Craciun Named 2013 MEAC Player of the Year

Seven named to All-MEAC team

2013 MEAC Women's Player of the Year Maria Craciun
NORFOLK, Va.-- South Carolina State University's Maria Craciun  was named the 2013 Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) Women's Tennis Players of the Year, as voted by the conference's head tennis coaches and sports information directors.
       Craciun, a four-time First-Team All-MEAC selection, posted a 14-3 record at the number one singles position including an unblemished 6-0 mark in southern divisional play. She teamed up with All-MEAC Second Team selection Klara Dohnalova to tally a 12-3 record at number one doubles. The senior finished the year winning 11 of her last twelve matches.
        Earning First-Team honors were Craciun and junior Artemiy Nikitin, while senior Laura Bosneag South Carolina State of Pitesi, Romania and freshman Klara Dohnalova of Trinec, Czech Republic earned Second-Team honors on the women's side.
        On the men's side freshmen Marius Dragoi of Pitesti, Romania and Jiri Stiburek of Prici Nad Sazavou, Czech Republic, while senior Peteris Vinogradous of  Ligatne, Latvia earned Second-Team accolades.

First Round  Women's Tennis Results
#1 South Carolina State Lady Bulldogs 4, #4 Hampton Lady Pirates 0
The defending MEAC women's champion South Carolina State Lady Bulldogs defeated Hampton in the first round of the 2013 MEAC Women's Tennis Championship. After capturing the doubles point, the Lady Bulldogs won at the number one, five and six positions to win the match. The Lady Bulldogs advance to the semifinals and will play Bethune-Cookman at 8:30 a.m. tomorrow.

First Round Men's Tennis Results
#2 South Carolina State Bulldogs vs. #3 Coppin State Eagles
The South Carolina State Bulldogs moved on to the semifinal round of the Men's MEAC Tennis Championships with a 4-0 victory over Coppin State. The Bulldogs went up 1-0 early with a double play win. South Carolina State captured three points at the number two, three, and six positions to take the match. South Carolina State will play Bethune-Cookman in the semifinals tomorrow at Noon.
