2012 MEAC Champion SC State Tennis Team's Saluted

Men will face Georgia in the first-round; Women take on Florida for the third consecutive year

ORANGEBURG,SC--The South Carolina State men's and women's tennis teams have combined for 16 Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference Championships the last nine seasons. Two of the feats occurred this year, sending both teams once again to the prestigious NCAA Championship that gets underway Friday, May 11-13 at sites around the country.
       The SC State women (19-0) will meet the defending national champion  No.2 Florida Lady Gators (21-1) Friday at noon in Gainesville, while the men (20-2) take on the second-ranked Georgia Bulldogs (23-2) Saturday at 12 noon in the first-round of the NCAA Tennis Championships.
         On Tuesday, both teams head coach Hardeep Judge, assistant coach Suzanna Mansour and graduate coach Gabriel Meana, were honored with a rousing salute and celebration at the President's State Room on the campus of  SC State.  An overflow and standing room only, including supporters from campus, alums, the community and elected officials to show their support for the SC State Tennis Teams.
        Orangeburg Mayor Paul Miller earlier presented the coach with a proclamation designating Tuesday, May 8, SC State Tennis Champions Day. A special recognition was sent on behalf of Senator Lindsey Graham and U.S.House Representatives Assistant Democratic Leader James E. Clyburn was unable to attend the event, but congratulating SC State on its wonderful athletic achievements in tennis this year.
       Remarks were also made by SC State Acting President Dr. Rita Teal, Bulldog athletics director Charlene M. Johnson, Mr. Doug Tourville, Vice President/Owner, Zeus Industrial Products, Inc, Mr. Bill Hamilton  Sports Information Director, Introduction of the head coach by Katarina Judge (daughter of the coach), Coach Hardeep Judge, Mr. Jonathan Pearson  pastor of Cornerstone Community Church, and Maria Craciun of the women's tennis squad.
        The tennis programs have been the most productive at SC State the last eight seasons, with the Lady Bulldogs posting a 35-0 record having not lost a conference match in eight years, while earning national ranking along the way. The men have earned postseason berths in the NCAA Championships and earned their eight league championships in nine seasons.
        This season the Lady Bulldogs made an historic run finishing with a 19-0 perfect record, with four players, Suhaila Jad, Sabrina Mendez, Maria Craciun and AKilah James all earning nationally-ranking by the ITA (International Tennis Association). Craciun became the first player in MEAC and school history to qualify for the NCAA Singles Championship, May 23-28 at the Dan Magill Tennis Complex in Athens, Ga., following the conclusion of the team championship (May 17-22).
