ORANGEBURG, SC – SC State conducted its second spring drill Thursday during an approximately two-hour session. The Bulldog players continue to show a lot of enthusiasm, according to head coach Buddy Pough, who is in his 11th season at his alma mater.
“We've had two very solid days,” Pough said. “It's still early but the players appear to be learning pretty good. Even the guys we have moved around to other positions are progressing. And, there's still a lot of enthusiasm among the players and it should be because we are in shorts and helmets only. But it was another good session overall.
“With just two practices behind us, we still got a ways to go in figuring out what works best and which players are better suited for certain positions in the schemes we want to use. We will continue installing the next few practices and then figure out where we are.”
Pough said he was anxious to see if his squad would maintain its lively play on Saturday when the Bulldogs will put on shoulder pads for the first time. Saturday's workout gets underway at 10 a.m.
The Bulldogs, who for the first time in four years are not defending a Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference championship, will play an 11-game 2012 schedule, which includes road games against two Football Bowl Subdivision opponents – Arizona (Sept. 15) and Texas A&M (Sept. 22). SC State opens the 2012 campaign Aug. 30 in a Thursday night tilt against Georgia State in Atlanta.
