SC State Works Out in Shoulder Pads For First Time

Day Three for Bulldogs

Preseason Football Report
ORANGEBURG, SC – South Carolina State conducted its third preseason drill Thursday evening, the first in shoulder pads for the Bulldogs, who were slowed a bit by the extra gear and humid temperatures, according to head coach Buddy Pough.
“Putting on shoulder pads for the first time made a difference,” Pough said. “It was pretty hot too so we didn't move around quite as good as previously. A number of the players struggled through the session but we got through it and actually got a good bit of work done.”
During Thursday's workout, the Bulldogs continued installation of the schemes the team will use this fall. Pough noted that his team, especially on offense, was still trying to develop some synergy, however he added that it was just day three and felt the execution would improve.
“We are working our way through a lot of things,” Pough said. “It's important that we get to the point where we can execute on a high level on both sides of the ball. We need to develop some depth early.
“But, I'm excited,” he continued. “I see some good things happening, especially from some of our freshmen and newcomers. Several of them were her e during the summer conditioning program and got a chance to get familiar with some of the language and those types of things.”
The Bulldogs return to the field tomorrow at 7 p.m. for their fourth practice, which will also be in shoulder pads.
On Saturday, SC State will hold its “Media Day,” beginning at 9 a.m. at Oliver C. Dawson Stadium.
