Norfolk, VA – South Carolina State placekicker and punter Blake Erickson has been named Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference Special Teams Player of the Week, the league announced Monday (Oct. 31).
Erickson, a 5-10, 165 Sr. of Cantonment, Fla., made one of two field goal attempts and all four extra point tries in the Bulldogs' 31-0 win at Howard. He also averaged 38.8 yards on six punts, including a long of 66 yards, and averaged 58.7 yards on six kickoffs.
The honor was the second of the 2011 season for Erickson, who earlier earned accolades for his performance in SC State's 23-13 triumph over Georgia State when he was 3 for 3 on field goal attempts and 2 for 2 on extra points.
Bethune-Cookman quarterback Jackie Wilson was named the league's Offensive Player of the Week, Norfolk State linebacker Corwin Hammond earned Defensive Player of the Week honors, while North Carolina A&T linebacker D'Vonte Grant and running back Tracy Martin of Morgan State were named Co-Rookies of the Week.
