ORANGEBURG, SC – The Bulldogs of South Carolina State returned to the practice field Friday afternoon after taking a day and a half off. The Bulldog workout was in shorts, helmets and shoulder pads only, however, SC State's Buddy Pough said the drill was extensive.
“We were just getting back to our routine after being off a day and a half and were in shells, but we had a pretty extensive workout,” Pough said. “We added a good bit of work because we wanted to get to the point where we would be acclimated for our scrimmage on tomorrow (Saturday morning 9:30).
Pough said his team put in a good bit of time on inside run drills, pass skel and other waist-up kind of routines. SC State also devoted some time to the “meat” of its kicking game – field goals and punts.
“We went pretty hard at times,” Pough said. “It was important that we get in some solid work, but at the same time, we wanted to take care of each other and avoid injuries.”
Saturday's scrimmage, the third of the preseason for the Bulldogs, will be followed by SC State's annual “Meet the Players Day,” sponsored by The STATE Club. SC State players and coaches will also be presented their 2009 MEAC championship rings at the event, which gets underway at 11:30 a.m.
