ORANGEBURG, SC- South Carolina State was back at it again, conducting its second full scrimmage of spring drills. Friday's scrimmage was cut short due to bad weather, but Coach Buddy Pough's team managed to get in 50 plays in 1 hour 15 minutes before heading to the lockeroom.
In Friday's scrimmage, the Bulldogs main focus was goal line offense and defense. The coaching staff also evaluated a lot of players on performance and how well they reacted in the red zone.
“We still got a lot of work to do but at the same time we wanted to work on some of our goal line drills,” said Pough. There are some guys like Asthon Jordan who really has toughness to him and adjusting well in our system.”
Jordan a transfer and former leading rusher from The Citadel will have his hands full replacing MEAC's All-Time Leading Rusher Will Ford.
“It's no pressure coming in behind great running backs like Jamison and Ford, said Jordan”. I just want to come in here help my team win and advance in the playoffs so we can compete for an I-AA National Championship this season.”
Pough stated, “Most of the returning guys look good but the most important thing is how we develop and move along these new guys before going into the fall. Its time for some our players to step up and show what they can do.”
SC State will observe Spring Break next week and when the Bulldogs return, they will have just four practice dates left, which includes the annual Garnet and Blue game Mar. 27th at 2 p.m.
